Welcome to the 2nd annual AHLAM AL RAKS! An intimate, affordable and unique belly dance event. "Ahlam Al Raks" means "Dreams of Dancing" in Arabic, which couldn't be a more fitting name for the dreamy weekend of dance ahead!
Every year, we will incorporate themes into the event that will be reflected in the workshops and shows. This year's themes are IMPROVISATIONAL DANCE and THE INNER WORKINGS OF PREPARING FOR A PERFORMANCE. Not only will participants and audience members get a sense of these themes from the workshops and shows, but we will explore them through the "Valley of the Queens" Live Music Competition, the Live Photo Shoot pre-show event before the "Cairo Cabaret" Gala Show and during all of our exciting Live Event Streaming throughout the weekend!
The 2nd annual AHLAM AL RAKS features Cassandra Fox, an amazing artist and an awesome person! This is her last stop on her USA Tour, so you don't want to miss her. In the Saturday night Gala Show, "Cairo Cabaret," Vanessa will be performing her full-length Cairo show! And of course she'll be teaching fabulous workshops, too, including a co-taught workshop with Sa'diyya.
In addition to Vanessa's workshops, we are offering some unique classes that include a yoga class designed for dancers by Candace Bordelon, Ph.D., a lecture on how to prep for a photo shoot by Miracle Bennett and an intensive technique drill class by Sa'diyya.
All shows will be held at the Plano Dance Theatre Black Box in Allen, TX. A small and cozy theater with professional sound and lighting, it will make for an interesting, intimate experience, but it only holds 75 people, so be sure to reserve your tickets!
All workshops will be held at Sa'diyya's studio in Frisco, TX. They are limited enrollment, as the studio holds 12 students, which enables our instructors to give the students virtually undivided attention. Be sure to claim your spot in the workshops before they sell out!
